In the midst of the storm of midterms, editing photos and writing this blogpost is one of the only things that's letting me take a breath and keeping me sane at the moment. As for where these photos are from, they were captured in a beautiful space provided by Breather.
I recently came across an article on Who What Wear (definitely a favorite amongst the blogs I follow!) talking about how personal style blogs that were once focused on personal stories, relatable content and affordable clothes are shifting towards more filtered, business-ey and sponsored content. In a way, it's perfectly understandable as many brands have recognized the power of social media and have used it to approach bloggers with a large following in order to promote their products. If it is a brand that interests them, there's obviously no reason not to collaborate! However, it also seems to be easy for some to get caught up in numbers instead of content.
There was also an article on Racked published about two years ago titled "The Dirty Business of Buying Instagram Followers" discussing how many famous bloggers have been accused of buying social media followers. By doing so, the focus is no longer on fashion or content but rather on fame and how they can attract brands to sponsor them which I find is honestly pretty sad and misleading. Especially on Instagram, it is usually obvious to see if someone has bought followers by comparing it with the number of likes on their photos but the problem lays in the fact that oftentimes, brands only go by numbers which may indirectly encourage this entire followers selling/buying market. As a brand, I think it would be alot more accurate to judge how influential a platform is by looking at followers engagement and comments. Personally, I believe it's more important to look beyond numbers and instead focus on content for less generic and more authentic platforms. And as a reader, it is always nice to hear a personal voice once in a while within the myriad of outfit posts on any fashion/style blog as it differentiates that blogger from any others. It also adds a sense of authenticity to their posts which can automatically make them more relatable and unique!
As for my outfit, I am wearing Zara from head to toe because I went completely crazy during their winter semi-annual sale by actually going every other day until the last few weeks (having school and working downtown did not help either lol). They also have a really responsive app that you should only download at your own risk because you'll most likely be hooked on it and there will be no going back.
I picked up this denim skirt which I think is a great addition to any closet as it can be worn in all four seasons since it is made of a fairly thick denim material that is easily pairable with black tights or just worn on its own in summer. I feel like denim skirts have recently made a comeback because you can probably remember your mom or grandmother owning one of these. They are incredibly versatile and can look casually effortless paired with a simple turtleneck or just a basic top. I also paired it with a beige draper-ish trench coat I got at half price for around 70$ which was probably one of my best finds during the holidays sales season. It is super lightweight but still warm and great for layering under a warmer long coat especially in canadian winter for days where you don't want to wear your -30C winter coat and look like a walking burrito.
I also wanted to thank everyone who have supported me so far as I have recently reached 5k+ on both Instagram and this blog (views). It's crazy to see on the Blogger map that there are people from different countries and continents actually reading my posts haha. I'll add a FAQ section some time in the future with the questions I get most on IG and I will have more details about this Breather location in my next post (they are basically spaces you can rent for x amount of hours and you can get a free hour using this code "EW6AFL"!) so till next time.
