"The hardest battle you will ever have to fight is between who you are now and who you want to be." - Anonymous
I happened to stumbled upon this quote while I was on berlin-artparasites facebook page. If you do not know what I'm talking about, please just take a moment to check it out. Trust me, you will feel like this page reads and translates your exact thoughts and emotions in the most beautiful way possible and I guarantee you will at least relate to some (the artworks are great too).
This quote in particular sounds simple but I think there is so much to it. "Who do you want to become later/ What do you see yourself doing in the future?" I can't even count the number of times I have been asked this question and have always given uncertain and different answers each time.
Entering university or another specific stage of your life seems like progress, but is it really?
Or could it be only when you are certain of your goals?
When you have learned to not succumb to the expectations of your surroundings?
When you realize that you should not compare yourself to what others have achieved?
Some may see progress as completing their education, finding a stable job or earning decent money, but that may not be satisfying enough for others. Because certainly, you will have those moments where you will feel like you have no clue where you're headed, moments you feel like you've hit a wall. But you're not alone. Some may have it harder than others, but we have all known that feeling for sure at least once in our lives.

And eventually, that feeling will pass.

Sometimes, having the ability to choose your future may seem like a burden, but you should never feel selfish for wanting to make a choice that goes against the expectations of even your own family just because your definition of "progress" is different or not as clear as what they have planned for you. One thing is for sure, there is no stronger and more important relationship than the one that you have with yourself. How can you expect to support and take care of others if you can't even support yourself and stand up to your own values? It’s definitely not easy to let go of the people/things that may be holding you back from progressing, but with patience and by waiting for the right time, it will be worth it.
Nobody, not even your parents, can know, better than you, how much you've grown or changed throughout the years and the potential that you have. So don't let anyone label your goals and define what your happiness is.

As for these photos, they have been taken a good few months ago at MBAM but I had never really decided what I would do with them so here they are. We both kept it simple and monochrome and the focus is clearly on the setting.

This blogpost was completely spontaneous (and slightly more personal than usual) as it was inspired by a recent conversation I had with another close friend, now living too many miles away.
Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed it!

ReplyDeleteIt's perfectly normal! Even when you feel like you're sure, you might change your mind eventually. May sound cliche but just go with the flow and you WILL realize you love something and will want to pursue in it. Best luck to you xxx
