Plaid has always been a timeless piece in any wardrobe for how versatile and diverse the patterns can be. They come in all colors and designs which makes it pretty much impossible to not find at least one piece of clothing with a plaid pattern that you like. I found mine at American Apparel a while back and it's a simple plaid flannel long sleeve button-down which was actually... in the mens section. But, let's agree that any plaid button-downs can be worn as a gender neutral piece.

I usually love to buy oversized button-downs for their fit but when I saw this one at AA, there was only XXS left. Surprisingly, though I thought that was probably a size for ants and would never fit me, with a few seconds of holding my breath, I actually managed to button up all the way (just kidding, it actually fit, just clearly not the oversized look). That's why I like to wear it tied around my waist most of the time because I do love the colors and pattern. It also pairs well with any cropped top or low waist denim for a casual outfit if you aren't comfortable with showing too much skin.
